ALUMNI INSIGHTS WITH ANDREAS RÖTTL FROM JOURNI
Best travel app. That's what Apple calls us. Journi was made to make your personal travel experiences unforgettable, but with ease.
WHAT PROBLEM DO YOU SOLVE?
Traveling is such an important time in our life, and that's why we want to preserve it, we want to share it. But in the end you have these pictures somewhere on a random memory or your smartphone. It's not that easy to really relive all these experiences.
HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH THE IDEA?
We fucked up our first idea and then made a pivot. We saw that our users actually were using our application in a totally different way: as a kind of journal or blog to preserve their own memories.
WHAT ARE YOUR LESSONS LEARNED?
You really have to solve a pain and be persistent in what you're doing. Good products need time to evolve, and you have to work on it to get to product market fit.
WHAT ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF?
I'm really proud of my co-founders, that we never give up because we really had hard times, we ran out of money. And we said: “Okay, let's find a way how to keep on pushing, how to make the app at least a little bit better“.
WHAT IS THE MOST VALUABLE LESSON OF YOUR STARTUP LIVE EXPERIENCE?
Well, Startup Live is the perfect event to get feedback, to get input from so many different people from different backgrounds: from design to engineering. And maybe you're even lucky to find your co-founder there.
HOW DO YOU PREPARE FOR A PITCH?
In the first couple of hours before the pitch try to smile as much as possible because this influences your brain, gives you a positive attitude and helps you to stay positive during the pitch.
YOUR ADVICE FOR FUTURE ENTREPRENEURS?
Just fucking do it because life is a journey and you have to go your own way.
