ALUMNI INSIGHTS WITH LEWI ILKANAEV, CEO OF LEWI CARE
Lewi Care is developing the most intelligent baby sock with state-of-the-art technology.
WHAT PROBLEM DO YOU SOLVE?
We help parents regain their sleep and track their baby’s health permanently during the night. And we help parents react quickly whenever their baby is in danger.
HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH THE IDEA?
My mother works in a hospital and said that hospitals are overcrowded. And then I thought: why not use hospital technology and connect it to a smartphone and pack it into an intelligent baby sock?
WHAT ARE YOUR MOST IMPORTANT LESSONS LEARNED?
I think the most important lesson that I’ve learned in the last month is that you have to believe in your idea, be able to convince other people, and to share your vision and your mission. Basically I think that’s the most important thing. And to be open and ready for adventures and practice.
WHAT IS SPECIAL ABOUT THE STARTUP LIVE EVENT?
I think the most important thing that I learned from Startup Live is the feeling when you’re on stage. It’s a unique feeling that you get when you win this prize and when you try to basically sell and pitch your idea to a crowd. You meet awesome people, you get lots of know-how. It is very well organised, and I would do it over and over again.
HOW DO YOU PREPARE FOR A PITCH?
I try to practice one or two times before eventually pitching my idea. And maybe I stand in front of a mirror for one time, and then I try to make it sound as authentic as possible.
YOUR ADVICE FOR EARLY STAGE STARTUPS?
I think that so many people are scared of basically just starting. That’s why my advice would be: just do it just, start just do something, and then everything will work out later. You’ll see what path you will take and what decisions you have to make.
