ONE ON ONE WITH OUR MENTOR THOMAS SCHRANZ FROM BLOSSOM

FIRST SUL EVENT?

I attended actually one of the first Startup Live (events) here in Vienna in 2011.

WHAT IS BLOSSOM?

What is Blossom? Blossom is a quality assurance and reporting tool used by the NASA, Twitter, Netflix and other great companies.

THE MOST IMPRESSIVE STARTUP?

One of the most impressive startups I met at the Startup Live event was Codeship, which is doing a continuous integration and testing service for software companies. That’s a very tough market to be in, because at the end software developers buy your product and you have to be very creative when it comes to advertising and marketing.

THE MOST VALUABLE LESSON FROM A SUL EXPERIENCE?

I think the most important lesson I learned was to always make sure that you surround yourself with people who are smart, with people who are curious and who enable other people.

YOUR ADVICE FOR FUTURE ENTREPRENEURS?

I think that one good advice for people who start out is to trust your gut feeling. Because if you start in a space where you want to change something in, it might be that you have an idea or you have a take on it that is different from what other people think. We meet a lot of people who push back and they are not convinced by what you’re doing. So, trust your gut feeling!

WHAT MAKES MENTORING SPECIAL?

I enjoy the people and the atmosphere. And it’s always great to be surrounded with people who create something. I think it’s a magical experience, if people don’t do that on their own but in a in a space where all of them are in that spirit together.
